Red Lions Porcelain Jarlet 红狮小罐

SGD 38.00

A beautiful modern take on the classic Red Lion or “Hong Shi” porcelain.

This classic motif often depicted a few lions playing with silks balls and baby cubs, typically in red/orange, hence the name. They are also sometimes referred to as foo dogs or fu dogs which means fortune dogs. Lions are seen as protectors of the house and also a symbol of strength and power. Many also believe the ”Red Lion” design was very much inspired by Empress Dowager Cixi’s pet Pekingese, which explains the dog-like features of the lions painted.

An apocryphal “Da Qing Qian Long Nian Zhi” (Made during great Qing’s Qian Long reign) is also added to make this an extra fun piece to have in your home!

Dimension: 13cm Tall
